A Dog Birthday Party is lots of fun. However, like a party for your kids, it takes a little planning and preparation for it to be a success.
If you get organized now, you will have a great dog birthday party that everyone will remember.
But, keep in mind that a dog party takes more planning and organization than other kinds of parties.

Of course, to make the birthday dog party celebration more fun, you’ll have to pick a theme. This is one of the first things on your checklist.
Is it your dog’s first birthday? Or is he having “senior moments”? Does she love her rubber ducky? Or do you think of her as a pretty princess in pink?
Choose a theme and build your dog birthday party décor around the theme. Try to match the theme to your dog’s personality.

Hand-write the details inside, and make sure that you include all the details that your guests will need:

- Time of the big event
- Who is giving the pet party and whose birthday you are celebrating

- Directions, if guests will need them to find the party

Make Your Party Personal
Your birthday dog party will be more personal if you decide to bake the dog birthday cake and dog treats or decorate the treat bags or boxes yourself.
You can easily make a dog cake from scratch, or you can use a dog cake mix. You can even use the microwave to make some of them!
However, you do have choices, and, if you’re pressed for time, you may be able to pick up a dog cake at a nearby dog bakery.
In addition to the birthday cake, you’ll need to plan and purchase a few other things.
You’ll need to make sure that you have lots of activities or dog games planned for your guests. Busy guests will stay out of trouble.
And you’ll need to make sure that you have some special dog treats on hand, to serve to the hungry attendees. (You might want to consider a few treats for the human guests, as well.)
And, of course, you’ll want to send a few tasty momentos to send home with your dog’s friends, as well.

Dog Birthday Party Cake
No dog birthday party is complete without a dog birthday cake. Of course you can make your dog’s birthday cake or you can buy one from a local dog bakery.
Here’s a time saver for you. If you would like to make the dog party cake yourself (or you don’t have a dog bakery nearby), you can use a dog cake mix and there is even a dog frosting mix that is really simple to use.
Using these dog bakery supplies is as simple as baking a people cake with a mix and an icing mix. Maybe even easier, because you can bake this cake in your microwave.
You might want to make one large bone shaped cake, a paw print cake, or individual muffin size cakes for each of the dogs that attend.
One thing to remember is, Never, ever, use chocolate in a dog treat or dog cake recipe. It is one of many foods toxic to dogs.
Favors for Dog Birthday Parties
Of course you’ll want to send a little memento home with your guests. Make sure that you put together little favor bags or boxes for the guests to take home with them. It is especially nice when they match the theme of the party.
If you have children, have them decorate plain white bags or boxes with crayons. Or, use rubber stamps to make the design.
Another idea is to use stencils and a sponge with water based paints. Put the kids in charge of the favor containers or bags, and they will have a ball with this! (Or, if you do it yourself, you’ll find yourself having just as much fun.)
Dog Birthday Party Mementos
Here is where you will use the cute dog favor bags or boxes that you (or your children) decorated earlier.
Fill the favor bags or boxes with your home made dog treats. When the party is over, give one bag or box to each pet parent, as they exit the party with their canine guest.
A week before the birthday dog party, bake some homemade dog treats to send home as favors. Try using cookie cutters in the shape of something that goes with your dog party theme.
For example, if your theme is “Rubber Ducky” because that’s your dog’s favorite toy, make homemade dog cookies in the shape of little ducks.
Or, just use a cute shape that you like or one that you already have-like little hearts or bones.
Photos of Your Dog Birthday Party
Oh-Don’t forget to take pictures of the pet party activities, and get copies made for each of the guests.
Send the photos in a thank-you card to each of the canine guests and their pet parents.
