Best Training Treats for Dogs

I’ll bet that you already know that people have many different opinions about which dog treat is the very best training treat for dogs!

So let’s just consider which is best for small dogs. When looking for a good dog treat to use for obedience or potty training, consider:

  • Keep treats small – bite size is best. You’ll be giving your dog quite a few treats, at least in the beginning.

  • Taste appeal – a training treat MUST be tempting. Your dog’s mouth should be watering at the smell of the treats. That way, she will be an enthusiastic learner.

  • Quickly consumed – You don’t want to wait around for 20 minutes while your dog consumes a dog chew.

  • Consistency – Small bits of real meat (freeze dried) or soft dog treats work well for training. Professional dog trainers very often use freeze dried chicken, duck or beef.
